Frequently Asked Questions

-When is the best time in high school for a student to take a tour?

It’s never too early for students and parents to start considering and preparing for college!  Generally, a student should begin to visit colleges at any time during high school, though many experts believe that the junior year is best time. Early in the senior year can be a good time, but sophomores, freshmen, and even middle school students can benefit by learning about important admissions criteria before it's too late.

-What happens when a group arrives at a campus?
The group tour usually begins at the admissions office to meet with the Director or an admissions representative.   The Director or admissions representative conducts an information session detailing the school's admissions criteria.  During this time, students have the opportunity to ask questions, receive materials, and either pick up or drop off applications or information about special programs.  The campus tour is usually the next portion of the school visit and typically includes a walk through of the campus, classrooms, student unions, and residence halls. Oftentimes, the group meets with students to gain real information on campus life, academics, services, and atmosphere. Time is always allotted to visit the campus bookstore and other places of interest to students.

-How can students prepare for the trip in order to get the most out of it?
Students are advised to do research before hand if they are particularly interested in certain schools and should come prepared with specific questions for admissions representatives.

-What should seniors bring?
Seniors should bring several copies of their unofficial high school transcript and SAT scores with them.  Some schools will waive the application fee for seniors and allow them to fill out applications on- site and submit it, along with their transcript and SAT scores.

-What about missing school?

Many school systems will recognize the tour as an excused absence from however; parents should follow normal procedures for the excusal of their student from school.  ULI can provide written documentation, if needed.

All overnight stays will be at the Embassy Suites. A contact number will be provided to parents prior to departure.

-What is the setup of each room at the hotel?

Students will be assigned to rooms according to gender and there will be three students per room. These rooms are closely monitored by the chaperones and security. A curfew is set for each night and all students will be in their rooms after curfew.

Chaperones will accompany students during tours, at restaurants, and at hotels. During visits to large enclosed areas, such as a mall or amusement park, where it is impossible for chaperones to stay with all, students are required to stay in pairs and to stay within the grounds of the property.
